Arthur Dubow

This is final project for two of my classes this term. The first class is Representing Culture. In this course we discussed and screened ethnographic films and did readings that informed the films. My other course was The Portrait Project, where we viewed portrait films and discussed the fundamentals of this genre of film. For my final project I decided to do a film about my grandfather. He is part of a culture in New York, which is very deep rooted in the NY demographic and culture. He is a New York Jew who lives in queens. My grandfather who is such a kind and warm person has been living in his apartment since 1954. My dad grew up in this apartment, and I have been going to stay with my grandfather periodically throughout the past year to visit and document his way of life. I did portraits of him with my mamiya rz, which have appeared on the glow, and I decided this term that I was going to shoot a film about him. This is the first of many projects I hope to do with him. Arthur Dubow is a classic, hilarious, amazing person and grandfather. I wanted to evoke true emotion from him, through this film. I observed him in his daily routine, interviewed him, and followed him around to his usual spots (the senior center, the temple, and his neighborhood of queens Kew Gardens). He and his lady friends go out to dinner, play Rummikub, and hit the synagogue on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy this film! It is the first film I have done with him and I hope to continue this project with him, using video as my medium. I didn’t shoot this in HD but I hope to get an amazing camera next time around. This is also the first edit of this film, so in future weeks I might put up a different and final edit. Enjoy All! More chromes and other films to come.

Thursday night i was at the Bennington College fashion show. I was asked to take some pictures of one my best friends line. Emily Sher(bff) and Sylvia Lei Fei put together a great line over the course of this term. I think the final product looked great! All of our friends were there to support and cheer on these two young aspiring fashionistas. Toby, Miles, Michaela, Cyan, and some other friends modeled for her line this night, and next term i will be shooting their look book. I hope u dig the images guys. More chromes on the way and 2 films in the works. Keep glowing bros.
